not for nothing, but...

not for nothing, but voter turnout in the current iranian presidential election is running over 80%. who, i wonder, between todays iranians and todays americans, really understands and values democracy? i hope no one has mistaken my anti-us-major-party screeds for any sort of excuse not to get active in politics and VOTE. (just think for yourself while you're doing it, k?)

Kad,

Wondering what your thoughts are on a voting holiday here in the states -- I know frivolous holidays are already a controversial topic these days, but this one seems like it would have a great purpose, and might help our voter turnout compare more favorably with some of our friends (and I use that term loosely) abroad..

best,
gp

Observing the number of Bostonians observing the British evacuation of Boston every March 17th, I'd say there's a vast difference between declaring a holiday and having it observed the way the official documents were intended. I like the thought of making voting mandatory, like filing taxes, or at least more convenient, like on Saturdays. Would make a good headline to have someone arrested for failing to vote.
